Effective communication involves an understanding of who you are as a person, your value and self-worth, as well as having an understanding of your unbearable feelings and the coping mechanism/survival kits you use to avoid feeling them.
Until you have a grip on these things in your life, your communication skills will always be marred, or have the potential to be, if conversation heads down the path of invoking your unbearable feeling.
Effective communication also involves assertiveness and conflict resolution skills.
All people require effective communication skills in order to cope with life and not get stressed.
