Depression is always a secondary issue, never the root problem. Depression is currently one of the ‘buzz phrases’ within our society, with research indicating 1 in 4 teenagers suffer from depression, 1 in 5 women etc. Depression certainly is something to be concerned about, however there is hope! The same research has found that CBT based therapies (which is what New Life Counselling & Training use) are one of the most effective methods of treatment.
Depression is really a loss of hope. The root cause of this loss of hope can be widely varied, but through cognitive restructuring, a person depressed can begin seeing a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. All is not lost, despair can be avoided. Don’t delay in seeking professional help though, depression can lead on to self-harm or suicidal thoughts and actions.
